On the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp Verdict
I confess I avoided the Depp/Heard trial. Look, I have other things to worry about. Like driving around my niece and nephew's elementary school daily to make sure all's quiet on the western front. Like struggling through the cognitive dissonance caused by loving family members who are out there voting for a gun in every crackpot.
I've been on the internet a long time. I watched Gamergate as it happened. So I saw the birth of the incel in real time. Of the MRA activist. So the vicious and crazy memes created about Heard came as no surprise.
And I don't like Heard. This has nothing to do with Depp, whom I despise, I just don't care for her. I think she's a terrible actress and as a comic film junkie, I always wished she wasn't cast as Mera in Aquaman.
But I thought she'd win, and I thought she should win. A woman needs to be free to discuss her own abuse. Full stop.
And it's so obvious to me that Depp is an abusive piece of shit. By his own words:
And here are the texts between him and that other prize, Paul Bettany:
Johnny texted his friend, “Let’s burn Amber!!!”
Paul wrote back, “I’m not sure we should burn Amber. She is delightful company and pleasing on the eye. We could of course do the English course of action and perform a drowning test. Thoughts? You have a swimming pool.’
Johnny then responded, “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! will f— her burnt corpse afterward to make sure she’s dead.”
Paul then said back, “My thoughts entirely. Let’s be certain before we pronounce her a witch.”
Here's another text from Depp to Bettany, in which Depp definitely admits to abusing Heard on that flight:
Johnny texted Paul, saying, “I’m gonna properly stop the booze thing darling. Drank all night before I picked Amber up to fly to LA. Ugly mate. No food for days. Powders, half a bottle whiskey, thousand red bulls, pills, two bottles of champagne…. I’m admittedly too fu**ed in the head to spray my rage at the one I love for little reason as well, I’m too old to be that guy but pills are fine.” He also called himself an “angry agro engine in a blackout.”
You know, I could go on. But that was enough for me to determine that Johnny Depp is a serious drug abuser, a misogynistic monster, and obviously becomes abusive, by his own words. I don't care if Amber stumbled along the way, or even during the trial. Johnny Depp is guilty by his own words. Period. It doesn't matter what Amber did or did not do, Depp was suing her for defamation. It has been proved beyond any doubt that he did physically abuse her at points. And he only had to do it one time to make this case dismissible on its face. NO MATTER WHAT HEARD DID, she therefore did not defame him when she wrote the WAPO op-ed that Depp was suing her over. The jury finding is ludicrous on its face.
I mentioned that I am not a fan of Amber Heard for a reason. I am not a "stan". I am not on a team. I am on the side of women. And this ridiculous jury just made it so much harder for women to speak about their abusers.
Now, one of Depp's best friends is Marilyn Manson. Evan Rachel Wood's statements about the abuse she suffered at the hands of that monster, are chilling. And Johnny Depp's bff is getting ready, right now, to try to do to Wood, what Depp did to Heard.
Wood will be but one causality in Johnny Depp's war on women.
Now, I expect nothing from men, especially when they're on the internet and start commenting in packs. My big shock has been women. It was women who stood outside that courtroom desperate to get inside to support Depp. It's women I see tweeting "Justice for Johnny."
And unfortunately, I have found so many of my mutuals on Twitter, tweeting this absolute horseshit.
I really have to ask why. What is going on here? I was never a Depp fan even though I am a 90's girl. I never had any interest in him or went to see his films. But I can see why people liked him back then.
Now though?
Let's play a game my friends and I like to call "picture that on top of you".
Really? Listen, Johnny Depp ain't going to fuck you, and you should be thrilled about that! If he did, you would need to shove Vicks up both nostrils just to get through the ordeal without passing out from his stink.
Please save your fake feminist outrage, you are "just in this for justice!" Justice for Johnny! You are in this because you used to have a big crush on him, likely during the 90's, but maybe during his Jack Sparrow years. Whichever. Don't hide behind feminism which you just took a big shit on. You just hurt so many women.
Shove your "Amber hurt REAL domestic violence victims!". YOU don't get to decide who a real victim is. You don't get to insist the victim be perfect. That she wear the perfect outfit, say the perfect thing, have the perfect reaction, go to the perfect safe places. In other words, that she isn't human. That's exactly what rape apologists say about women who report rape. "Oh she's lying, she's hurting REAL rape victims, that's why I'm upset!". Can your bullshit. If you can't see it's bullshit, get your messy ass into therapy and do some introspection
I have even seen women saying "as an abuse victim myself" blah blah blah. I think there is something going on here that involves the romanticisation of male celebrities. The fantasies they foment about the brave, handsome protector. This famous movie star can't be like the bum I married who beat me up. Somehow, accepting this, would destroy interior worlds. In order for there to be villains (your abuser), there must be heroes (Jack Sparrow).
Sometimes, there are no heroes. Just ask Uvalde.
Now, of course, some of the "JUSTICE FOR JOHNNY!" idiots will eventually be hurt by this ruling. And someday, there will be an article written "I was wrong, now it happened to me." But I won't read it. Too predictable, no twists, no surprise ending.
